Cornerback

The Miami Dolphins are fortunate to have one of the premiere corner backs in the NFL. Over the last two years, Brent Grimes has led the Dolphins secondary, earning consecutive Pro Bowl selections. There is no questioning Grimes’ ability.

But outside of Grimes, there is a lot of uncertainty. The uncertainty mainly comes from Jamar Taylor and Will Davis, both of whom were selected in the 2013 NFL Draft. Taylor, who was a second round pick, and Davis, a third round pick, are both prone to injury and have missed substantial time in their two NFL seasons.

In an attempt to bolster the position, Miami signed former Pittsburgh Steelers corner Brice McCain. McCain has played six NFL seasons, which will bring in another veteran presence. Yet, the signing of McCain should not make Miami shy away from drafting another corner.

Despite the hole, Miami does not need to address this until the third or fourth round. At that time, most of the top cornerbacks will be off the board. However, this year features a deep class, and some of the best mid-round options might already be in the state of Florida.

Central Florida’s Jacoby Glenn and Miami Hurricane’s Ladarius Gunter will both be available into Day 2 and possibly even Day 3. Both corners stand over six feet tall and would give Miami with the new-age, physical defender on the outside.
