Embattled defensive coordinator Rob Ryan gets one of his former students from Dallas with the addition of Spencer, who became a better football player as time wore on but has had his career stifled by injuries in recent years.

Now he’s back with Ryan in a different place as the Saints look to rebound from a horrible showing on his side of the football. One year after giving up the fourth-fewest total yards and points in the league, only the Atlanta Falcons gave up more total yards than the Saints in 2014.

This past season, Spencer played in 13 games and totaled 22 tackles for the Cowboys this past season. He also recorded a one forced fumble and one fumble recovery to go along with one-half sack.

In eight NFL season, Spencer has totaled 33.0 sacks. But more than half of those (17.0) came in the two seasons that Ryan was in Dallas.
