3. Trading for center Max Unger

There are obviously two sides to every trade and yes, the Saints wound up parting ways with three-time Pro Bowler Jimmy Graham in order to get the former Pro Bowl center and the No. 31 overall pick in next week’s draft.

While the departure of the talented tight end will certainly be felt by quarterback Drew Brees (386 receptions, 51 for touchdowns will do that), fortifying the offensive line is important as well.

The Saints still have tight ends Ben Watson and Josh Hill and free-agent pickup C.J. Spiller will try to take up the slack for Graham’s departure. Meanwhile, trading Graham as well as other important components such as wide receiver Kenny Stills and guard Ben Grubbs was done for numerous reasons, including financial, and could open the door for a slight change in offensive philosophy.
