Rob Ryan will ask to hand this card in himself if Shane Ray is still available when the Saints pick. New Orleans is looking to flood young talent into an uncertain roster, and the electrifying Ray will give this defense the playmaking pass-rusher that is desperately craves.

Ray gets after the passer with the violent mentality that he’s going to get there each and every time. His 14.5 sacks in 2014 set a Missouri school record, and he was able to solidify his stock with a 4.64-second 40-yard dash at his Pro Day. Once Ray gets the edge on a would-be blocker, it’s game over. His burst off the snap cannot be matched, and he has the ability to change direction on a dime without losing much momentum.

My worry with Ray comes from his strength and length. Ray does not have the prototypical long, lean body that some teams covet from their pass-rushers, meaning that opposing blockers could get their hands on him before he establishes the play. Once engaged, stronger linemen may swallow Ray up, so he’ll need to work on developing a diverse arsenal of moves to keep his rushes in motion. If he can clear that hurdle, the Saints will have a game changer.
. OLB. Missouri. Shane Ray. 13. player. 15
