Week 8 – New York Jets
Why does it feel like the Raiders play the New York Jets every season? Last season the Raiders traveled to New York or should I say New Jersey in their season opener to face the Jets and put on a terrible offensive performance. That could be chalked up to Derek Carr’s inexperience as he struggled to get anything going against a tough Jets defense.
To make things worse, the Raiders seem to always make Geno Smith look like the second coming of Randall Cunningham. Smith tears apart the Raiders defense through the air and on the ground despite being one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL. I don’t know what it is about Smith that makes the Raiders play like hot garbage but they will look to buck that trend this season.
The key difference last year was the Raiders inability to stop the run and run the ball themselves. They gave up 200+ yards to the Jets on the ground and only managed 25 of their own. That is a recipe for disaster but the rushing attack should be much improved this season.
The Jets are undergoing a makeover with the departure of Rex Ryan but several key players in Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie have returned to the team. The defense will likely be as tough as ever but this is another winnable game for the Raiders at home.
Prediction: Win
Record: 3-4
