5. A.J. Cann, G, South Carolina

Help is desperately needed along the offensive line in Seattle. With Max Unger now in New Orleans and James Carpenter signed on to play for the Jets, at least two picks must be used to ensure future protection for Russell Wilson.

A.J. Cann is a 6-3, 313-pound guard out of South Carolina who should get a serious look if he’s still on the board late in round two. Cann was a four-year starter for the Gamecocks, earning second team All-American honors in 2012 and 2014.

Here’s the bottom line on Cann according to NFL.com’s official draft profile:

“Consistent four-year starter for the Gamecocks. He has technique issues that need to be coached up in pass protection, but he also has the talent to improve in that area. Powerful drive-blocker who uses leverage to fire out and generate instant movement in tight spaces. He is best-suited to a power scheme. Cann has the plug-and-play traits that could make him an instant starter.”

The Seahawks definitely need an instant starter on their offensive line and it sounds like Cann would at least be a candidate to step up to the plate right away. He’s also an intriguing candidate because of his ideal fit with a power scheme. Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle run game is about as physical as it gets.
