3. Alex Carter, CB, Stanford
The Legion of Boom is in good shape overall. Byron Maxwell moved on for financial reasons, but proven veteran Cary Williams has been signed to fill the starting void. For now.
There’s no such thing as planning too far down the road in the NFL. It would be hard to call drafting another secondary member a bad move for Seattle, as it never hurts to have prospects and depth.
Alex Carter out of Stanford seems to fit the LOB prototype. He’s a physical corner with good size (6-0, 200-pounds) and tackling ability. But he’s not exactly a burner with 4.5 speed.
Some draft analysts think Carter could eventually end up as a safety, but either way he would make for an interesting LOB member with his physical skill set. It’s okay to be unsure of exactly what you have in Carter right now, because he won’t have to be ready to contribute for a year or two if the current group can stick together and stay healthy.
