Somewhere on Friday or Saturday Seattle will likely attempt to replace Max Unger at center. Hroniss Grasu out of Oregon could be just the ticket in round three.
Grasu started 52 games for the Ducks, earning second team All-American honors and a spot as a finalist for the Rimington Award during his tenure. But he’s a little undersized right now at less than 300-pounds, and far from “brute” status.
Here’s the bottom line according to NFL.com’s official draft profile:
“While Grasu isn’t a powerful center, he does display enough functional strength and movement skills to be able to assimilate into any offensive philosophy. Grasu can play bigger than his listed size and while he doesn’t possess any overwhelming qualities or traits, there aren’t any glaring holes in his game that should derail him. His leadership and winning pedigree should be a plus with GMs.”
It seems like Grasu would be an attitude fit with the Seahawks and that he could potentially be a Week 1 starter. He’d in theory be competing against Patrick Lewis and Jared Wheeler for the starting center job, and you’d have to like his chances based on the way their NFL careers have gone.
Grasu is not yet pro ready, but by September he should be close enough.
