2. Mario Edwards Jr., DL, Florida State

Going along with the theme of flexibility and significant upside, Mario Edwards Jr. is another player the Lions should consider selecting. He also happens to be out of Florida State, playing a big role in the Seminoles’ national title run in 2013. Edwards will enter the NFL as either a defensive end or defensive tackle.

The flexibility of Edwards makes him appealing, but the Lions would need to be sold on him as a tackle to take him in round one or two. That’s the real area of need, so it would be harder to understand drafting him to play on the outside.

No matter what, he has the pedigree to be an NFL player. His father, Mario Edwards Sr., played five seasons as a cornerback in the early 2000s, starting 47 games for the Cowboys from ’01-’03.

Second-generation athletes are hit or miss, but when they hit, they seem to really be good.

Based on his stellar college career at FSU, his ability to play multiple positions and his overall athleticism, Mario Edwards Jr. could be molded to fit in with the Lions. It’s really just a question of how high is too high to take him.
