9. Peyton Manning, 2009

Here he is again, the King of the MVP Award, Peyton Manning. His 2009 season with the Colts was obviously good enough to win him another AP MVP trophy, but again it doesn’t exactly compare to the other great seasons over the last 10 years. That said, he brought home the award and his statistics from this season far exceeded his production from the 2008 season in which he won the award.

In 2009, Manning threw for 4,500 yards, 33 touchdowns, and boasted a completion percentage of 68.8. However, his 16 interceptions aren’t the sexiest of statistics, but his rating was still 99.9 for the 16-game stretch. He averaged 283.1 passing yards per game and all year demonstrated why he is one of the all-time greats. Although that can’t be said about his production running the ball. Manning ran for -13 yards and had zero touchdowns on the year, but only fumbled the ball twice.

Obviously Manning, the fans, and the MVP voters do not care about his running statistics, it’s just interesting to note. Despite the fact that Manning is in the two ‘lowest’ spots on this list, he appears one more time — significantly higher. Although that MVP season came with a different franchise altogether.
