Quarterback duel

The Texans are just one team that will be having an open competition to see who will be the starting quarterback.

“I think it’s [a quarterback competition] good for the team, and it’s good for those guys,” head coach Bill O’Brien said, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle“Two professional competitors. They’re good guys and good communicators.”

The truth is, neither quarterback is a household name, and neither quarterback is terribly captivating. To be completely honest, both guys are kind of boring. They lack a Cam Newton-like swagger or a Tom Brady-like controversy. They’re just kind of there.

However, there’s nothing better than a good, old-fashioned quarterback duel.

The past few years of Hard Knocks have been sans a quarterback competition. The Falcons, Bengals and Jets were the last three teams to be featured on the show, and all three teams had their starting, unquestioned quarterback.

The closest thing we’ve seen was when Matt Moore, David Garrard and Ryan Tannehill were competing for the starting job, but injuries to Garrard prevented it from being great.

The best thing about a quarterback competition is that the quarterbacks try to act as politically correct as possible. But the whole world knows they’re just waiting for the opposition to make a mistake.

With Houston being featured on Hard Knocks, fans would be able to see how coaches determine who’s going to be the starting quarterback. It’s not an easy decision to make.
