After Houston Texans star running back Arian Foster played in just eight games in the 2013 season, running for his lowest rushing yards total since his rookie season, some were worried that he could slide further in the 2014 season. Although he did miss a few games with nagging injuries, Foster was an absolute monster last year and easily one of the NFL’s best backs again, putting up 95.8 rushing yards per game. One of the most dominant offensive players in the game, Foster didn’t disappoint as Bill O’Brien‘s focal point, and we can expect a similarly large workload in 2015.
That said, the Texans should give some carries to the other backs on the roster, even if none of them come close to being capable of what Foster can do on any given Sunday. Last year’s LSU rookie Alfred Blue was serviceable when Foster went down, putting up a memorable 36-carry, 156-yard performance against the Cleveland Browns at one point. But his lock on the No. 2 gig isn’t solid, as the Texans added Chris Polk this offseason, with Polk being a more serious candidate to spell Foster.
