SS Reshad Jones

Reshad Jones put himself on the map in 2012 with a sensational season, and he earned well-deserved money and plaudits after signing that aforementioned extension. However, he flopped in 2013, raising some concerns regarding his contract and whether or not he was a one-year wonder. Jones allayed those concerns in a big way last year by making plays in all phases of the game. His tackles went down from 107 to 80, but his interceptions went back up from one to three and his passes defended up from four to seven.

He’s solid in run defense and in coverage, and Jones is quietly one of the Dolphins best and most valuable players on defense. The way he impacts the game in so many ways for the Dolphins makes him one of the team’s most important players on either side of the ball. Jones is a better run defender than a coverage safety, but that’s why he has Delmas teamed up with him. Jones was able to focus more on his duties against the run, but he still held up well in the passing game with some picks thrown in for good measure.

Jones might not be elite, but there aren’t many safeties who are as stout against the run while also being  capable cover men. If you were to call him an elite strong safety, then I wouldn’t argue against that; he’s had two textbook seasons at the position in the past three years.
