The jury is still out on Jason Garrett, as he’s the current head coach of the Cowboys. In his 72 games as the Cowboys’ sideline leader, Garrett is 10 games over .500, and in two playoff games, his teams are 1-1, winning last season against the Detroit Lions but losing to the Green Bay Packers.

Has there ever been a rockier path as the Cowboys’ head coach than Garrett? There have been worse teams, that is for sure, but has a head coach ever had as much scrutiny as Garrett when coaching “America’s Team?”

Garrett does a serviceable job as the head coach, and he’s a very smart person, but the team has done much better since he relinquished the offensive play-calling duties, and in that the Cowboys reached the playoffs in ’14 with a 12-4 record.

But in the grand scheme of being the coach, the word that comes to mind for me is “average.” Garrett took over mid-season in ’10 as the head coach, leaving the Cowboys at 6-10 in a wash of a season. That was followed by three straight seasons of 8-8, and finally the team played to their potential with the 12 wins of last season.

I’m not the biggest believer in Garrett, but with all the moves that have been made in recent seasons, to get a better position on this list, the Cowboys will have to have more success on the field.
