This aforementioned defensive unit can weather the storm of being without Pro Bowl defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson for the first four games of the regular season.

Earlier this month (courtesy of Dan Hanzus of NFL.com), we learned that the 2013 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and 2014 Pro Bowl invitee was suspended for violating the league’s the policy and program for substances of abuse.

Led by Richardson and defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, as well as unsung nose tackle Damon Harrison, the Jets have one of the top three-man fronts in the league. The unit was bolstered this offseason with the free-agent additions of Kevin Vickerson and Stephen Bowen, as well as the first-round selection of USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams.

New York’s depth will be tested the first four weeks of the season, when they face the Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins.
