The Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety situation looks a little bit different right now than it did at the same point on the calendar last year, as the team traded former first-round pick Mark Barron to the St. Louis Rams during the 2014 season before mercifully cutting ties with current Washington Redskin Dashon Goldson. The Bucs main new addition at the position is former Houston Texans highly-drafted D.J. Swearinger, who looked like a potential impact strong safety in the NFL during his time at South Carolina.

There’s no doubt that the Buccaneers have quite a bit of sorting out to do at the safety position in training camp, because there are a number of decent enough options at the position but no clear-cut starters. Lovie Smith’s former Chicago Bears duo of Major Wright and Chris Conte will gun for snaps, with the latter player looking like the favorite to start at free safety after signing with the Bucs early in the free agent period.
