If

If they can settle on a quarterback for the entire season, Mike Pettine’s club will have taken a big step forward towards respectability.

In case you’re wondering, the last time the Browns had a player start the entire season behind center was back in 2001 when the league’s first overall pick in 1999, quarterback Tim Couch, led Cleveland to a 7-9 season. In fact, that marks the only time since the franchise returned to the NFL in ’99 (as an expansion team) that the Browns had a signal-caller start all 16 regular-season contests.

Enter free-agent pickup Josh McCown, the favorite over Johnny Manziel to start in Week 1. That would make him the 23rd different starting quarterback to lead the Browns in 17 seasons. The veteran signal-caller should feel right at home in this situation considering Cleveland would be his seventh team since entering the NFL in 2002.

Of course, what McCown will we see? In 2013 with the Bears he played in eight games, made five starts, threw 13 touchdown passes and just one interception. He signed with the Buccaneers in 2014 and in 11 contests, all starts, he threw for 11 scores and was picked off 14 times.
