8. Draft after preseason Week 3

There is a lot of anticipation for the Fantasy Football season. Yet, drafting too early could hurt you by season’s end. Instead of drafting in May, June, or July, channel that excitement into researching and becoming a better player. Consume what the fantasy football experts have to say and come up with your own opinion on players. Mini camps, OTA’s, and training camps are a great time to evaluate potential picks and asses whether their stock is on the rise or falling.

Sadly, injuries happen within sports. These injuries affect team game plans, but also fantasy leagues as well. The first two weeks of preseason games see the primary starters play for the majority of the game. As a result, some will go unfortunately get injured. This includes a star or two that sustain a serious injury. 

If you draft before week 3 of the preseason, you run the risk of being affected by these major or even minor injuries. After week 3, the starters don’t see much time and the players on the fringe and in danger of being cut are given time to prove themselves.

In order to be affected by training camp and preseason injuries the least, wait until at least training camp week 3 to hold your fantasy football draft. If you need to fill your fix of having a draft, participate in a no-risk mock draft that won’t have you regretting you prematurely took part in a fantasy football draft and now your top pick is down with a season-ending injury.
