If the Cowboys have to play a snap of offense without Tony Romo this upcoming season, they might be in a bit of trouble.

I’m still not sold on Brandon Weeden as the backup quarterback, and to be honest, I don’t know a lot about Dustin Vaughan or Jameill Showers, all of whom saw action in the preseason opener.

Weeden played very little in the first quarter (one series, 11 plays), finishing 4-of-5 for 42 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Vaughan was the leading quarterback on Thursday, finishing 12-of-18 for 106 yards. Showers was 5-of-11 for 40 yards.

The hope of all Cowboys fans should be that we never have to see any of these quarterbacks on the field this season and Romo stays healthy.

Of the three quarterbacks, I wouldn’t mind seeing more from Vaughan, as he did work well with Gavin Escobar (who we’ll talk more about later) during his time on the field.

Yes, Vaughan did make some mistakes, but this is just his second season in the NFL. I would like to see a little more from him in Week 2 of the preseason before passing a positive or negative judgement, because we know what we’re already getting from Weeden.
