The second star given to a Philadelphia Eagle for his performance against the Ravens is Kenjon Barner. Coach Kelly looks like a genius with signing the Oregon Duck after he flopped with the Carolina Panthers. For the second straight week, he returned a punt return for a touchdown.
While it’s hard to really gauge preseason performances and make too many judgements about them, Barner showed speed, pose, and explosiveness to get his second special teams touchdown of the year. His effort is also helping him when it comes to finding time as a running back. Currently, he is battling for the fourth string spot.
With Kelly wanting to have running back by committee it wouldn’t be surprising to see Barner see more time at back during week 3 and week four of the preseason. He’s another option to add to Kelly’s Swiss army knife of a playbook that has more options and weapons than many people are actually aware of.
For now Barner’s success on special teams will cause opponents to kick away from him. He could quickly become then next Devin Hester in the NFL if he keep up this trend.
