CB Delvin Breaux

Delvin Breaux is the next man up in New Orleans, and it’s time for the man who once shut down current Indianapolis Colts WR Duron Carter in the CFL to show that he can shine in the NFL. After defeating talented Florida State rookie P.J. Williams, who is now on the injured reserve, and veteran/draft bust Kyle Wilson for the nickel corner job, Breaux has now been thrust into the No. 2 corner role opposite of Brandon Browner as a result of this injury.

Breaux has the tools to be a starter on the outside, and those especially bullish on him and down on Browner would be inclined to see him as a potentially superior player to the former New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks corner. Even after Lewis comes back, Breaux will play a major role for this defense as the starting nickel corner, and he seems to have both the size and- more importantly- the feel for the position.

If he can play well enough, then the Saints might not miss Lewis that much for those first few weeks of the season. The problem is that there’s an adjustment period to succeed on the outside in the NFL, and the worry is that Breaux will take some time to adjust during his first season in the NFL. On the bright side, he seems to have all the tools, and the Saints have been impressed with him, so he’s their best bet as the No. 2 corner to Browner at this point in time.
