One of the most underreported stories of 2014 was how well Derek Carr played for the Oakland Raiders. While all eyes went to his fellow rookie quarterbacks, Carr was overcoming dreadful surroundings to play very well.

With 21 touchdowns to 12 interceptions and over 3,000 yards passing, Carr set the stage for a monster second season.

Carr will have a significantly better supporting cast in 2015, including an offensive line that should improve. Oakland also added Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree at wide receiver, which should make life significantly easier for Carr.

Assuming Latavius Murray builds on a productive 2014 and Mychal Rivera doesn’t disappear after playing well a season ago, Carr’s numbers should improve.

This isn’t the type of pick you make in hopes of landing your full-season starter. Instead, Carr makes sense in the later rounds for fantasy owners who want an upside player on their bench.

Worst case scenario: you drop him and find someone else.
