Quarterback Matchup: Tony Romo vs. Eli Manning

When these two quarterbacks meet twice a season, social media explodes, and the football world is glued to their TVs, laptops or tablets, because even if these two DirecTV spokesmen aren’t Top 5 NFL quarterbacks, they are very intriguing quarterbacks who draw ratings.

For the sake of the game, let’s all hope we don’t see “Arts-and-Craftsy” Tony Romo, and even in that line of thinking, maybe for the sake of Cowboys fans, an appearance of “Bad Comedian” Eli Manning.

What will be most exciting for this matchup is how the quarterbacks will perform with their respective offensives. Each quarterback has one of the better, if not best, wide receivers in the entire league to throw to with Romo having Dez Bryant on his side, while Manning has Odell Beckham Jr. to throw to.

The rushing games are about even this season, and the Cowboys win the vote for having the better offensive line. As for their wide receivers, that might go to the Giants if we are talking about the entire receiver roster. Bryant I believe is better than Beckham Jr., but Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle might have the advantage over Terrence Williams and Cole Beasley. (I said “might.”)

Babe Laufenberg of DallasNews.com had this to say of Romo this week:

"“When will he get his due? It won’t come from the national media. That would take too much work. Only Rodney Dangerfield has gotten less respect.”"

I can’t disagree, and maybe the same can be said of Manning as well, and he has two Super Bowl titles to his credit.

In 15 games last season, Romo passed for 3,705 yards with 34 touchdowns, nine interceptions (435 attempts) and a QB Rating of 113.2.

Speaking of Manning, Jordan Raanan of NJ.com wrote on being in his second season with the current Giants offense:

"“Despite missing the playoffs the past three years, Manning is coming off a promising first season in a new offense.”"

Manning passed for 4,410 yards with 30 touchdowns, 14 interceptions (6-1 attempts) and a QB Rating of 92.1.

If Manning can get the protection from his offensive line, he won’t have as many interceptions. The same can be said for Romo, but I believe he’ll throw for at least 4,000 yards in ’15 with the running game most likely not being as productive as it was in ’14.

This match between two underappreciated quarterbacks should be a good show and one that will be the talk of football fans Monday morning.
