Keeping Up With the Jones
Long-time Packer receiver James Jones made his return to Titletown earlier this week and this is a huge bonus for the team. He will be expected to not only suit up immediately but also contribute quite a bit right away as well.
Jones has stated that he is bitter about being released by the Raiders and Giants in the same offseason so we can expect a little fire under the seven-year veteran. If he can be effective (I’m not looking to compare him to Nelson) on the outside with Adams, then the Packers can restore much of their playbook following Nelson’s injury. Cobb will pick up where he left off playing from the slot and occasionally even the backfield to try to pick up some mismatches.
Jones was never the No. 1 receiver in Green Bay and he likely will not feel that pressure this time around, either. Regardless, his presence is a good thing for the team as it will allow some of the younger receivers to develop at their own pace.
Either way, it will be interesting to see how effective he can be in the Packers system again. No better way to make your presence felt than against a long-time rival.
