Julius Peppers a Freak of an Athlete

Late in the first quarter, Julius Peppers turned some heads when pass rushing quarterback and former teammate, Jay Cutler. The Bears were facing a third and nine with 5:49 left in the first when Peppers blasted the right tackle and was able to get to the quarterback in a hurry.

Not only did he bring Cutler down to the ground but he was able to strip the ball out of his hands. The ball popped up in the air and Peppers corralled it while on the ground. Strip, sack, recovery.

After the play was reviewed by officials upstairs, it was determined that Cutler was down by contact before the ball was fumbled, negating the turnover. Regardless, the play resulted in a ten-yard loss and the Bears were forced to punt.

Peppers was making his presence felt on the field Sunday and was able to end back-to-back Chicago drives in the first quarter. Earlier, he had brought down Cutler with B.J. Raji’s help to bring up another fourth down.

Many thought the three-year deal Peppers signed with the Packers last season was essentially a one-year deal with the way it was structured but Peppers continues to show exactly why he deserves to stay with the team. Plays like these ruin the momentum for an offense and can flip the game completely.
