Honorable Mention: Matt Forte, Chicago Bears

Matt Forte was unable to lead the Chicago Bears to a victory over the division rival Green Bay Packers. What he established in Week 1, however, is that he’s prepared to be the featured player in John Fox’s offense.

Forte ran for a Sunday-best 141 yards, found the end zone once and caught five passes for 25 yards.

Green Bay pulled out the victory, but Forte was the last person to blame for Chicago’s inability to win.

Forte has long been one of the most productive players in the NFL. He’s closing in on 8,000 career rushing yards and 4,000 career receiving yards, as well as being a realistic 52 receptions away from 500 for his career.

In Week 1, everything that makes Forte great was on full display.

Clearly, the Bears will need to win games in order for Forte to have any bit of a chance at winning MVP. If Chicago, which turned in a solid Week 1 effort, does begin to win with consistency, however, Forte will make headlines.

If he doesn’t, then chalk that up to his eternal underrating.
