Quarterback

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it is unlikely that the Cowboys will make an effort to trade for another quarterback, or go out and sign one in free agency. What that means is that they are going to rely on Brandon Weeden as a starter, and potentially bring Kellen Moore up from the practice squad as Weeden’s backup.

Weeden’s one full season as a starter was his rookie year with Cleveland in 2012, where he lead the team to a 5-10 record in 15 starts, throwing for 3,385 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions. Not exactly numbers to get excited over. He finished that season as the No. 26 fantasy quarterback, not worthy of even a roster spot in all but the deepest of leagues.

More from Dallas Cowboys

He’s playing with a much better team in the Dallas Cowboys now though, and looked crisp in relief of the injured Romo on Sunday, completing 7 of 7 passes for 73 yards and 1 touchdown. That being said, it is unlikely that Weeden will be worth a consideration in fantasy leagues, as he has never shown us that potential. What you should be hoping for out of Weeden is for him to play efficiently enough to avoid destroying the fantasy value of the rest of the team’s offensive weapons.

Keep an eye on Weeden though, because he has enough talent around him that if he plays at the level that the Browns expected him to when making him a first round pick in 2012, there may be weeks that Weeden is a serviceable filler quarterback with the right matchup.
