I’ve never though this sentence would be typed by me about Weeden, but he played well on Sunday when thrown into the line after Romo’s injury.

More from Dallas Cowboys

Weeden went 7-of-7 (yes, he completed 100 percent of his passes) for 73 yards and one touchdown, One of those passes went for 42 yards, averaging 10.43 yards per competition. He threw no interceptions and had no turnovers in the second half after Romo was injured.

To be honest, Weeden did a lot better than I thought he was going to do when he entered the game. Like head coach Jason Garrett said in his Monday press conference (I’m paraphrasing), you can’t compare Weeden today to his one start from last year.

But with the way the Eagles’ defense caused the Cowboys some problems Sunday, Weeden stood tall and got the job done, including the touchdown pass to Terrance Williams, which to me was very unexpected.

I don’t believe the Cowboys are going to be as good as they were with Romo, but I don’t believe they will be awful, either. Week 3 will be quite interesting for Weeden, but like I’ve written before, as long as Weeden doesn’t try to do too much, and the rushing game can turn around to resemble a little of last season, the Cowboys could stay afloat until Romo makes his return in a couple months.
