3) Stop Melvin Gordon
The San Diego Chargers have found the feature back they need in order to balance their offense. University of Wisconsin product Melvin Gordon is the top rookie rusher so far this season, and for good reason.
He’s a top-10 running back through two games and can continue to run over defenses for the Chargers. He racked up 88 yards in Week 2 and needs to be limited to force the Chargers to pass.
Philip Rivers has struggled to get going in his first two games this season and by shutting down Melvin Gordon, the Minnesota Vikings will be able to force Rivers to be better immediately. A strong run defense will make the Chargers offense one dimensional and allow the Vikings to take advantage of what should be another slow start for Rivers.
Gordon’s ability should not be overlooked. It will be difficult to shut him down, but with a strong defensive line, the Minnesota Vikings should be able to do it.
The Chargers do not have a dominant offensive line and I like the Vikings front seven against them, limiting Gordon in this game.
