No. 2: Tennessee Titans
In year one of the Ken Whisenhunt era, the Tennessee Titans were owners of the No. 11 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. With seemingly endless needs all over their roster and a decision to make about former first-round pick, Jake Locker, the Titans front office really could have gone any direction with their pick. But instead of a potential playmaking receiver for Locker, the Titans went with Taylor Lewan out of Michigan to bolster their offensive line and keep their quarterbacks upright.
Adding a left tackle to your offense is obviously a very important thing for an organization to do. On top of that, the Titans were returning Kendall Wright (94 receptions, 1,079 yards and two touchdowns in 2013) and Nate Washington (58 receptions, 919 yards and three touchdowns) to their offense at the receiver position, so the immediate need was not there for Beckham Jr. and the Titans offensive line was in shambles at the time.
However, when you look at where the Titans are now with a shiny new quarterback in Marcus Mariota—that offense could be something special with a guy like Beckham Jr.’s ability to stretch the field and Wright’s ability to get open in space and make things happen underneath. Add in Mariota’s precision, intelligence and quick processing of plays to the equation, and those three would have the potential to be one of the most dynamic passing trios in the league in quite some time.
