“The Jets are 3-1 and in 5th Place in the AFC”
The Jets are 3-1 this season including three wins against AFC opponents. They are beating inferior teams so far this season and have a big test against the Patriots in Boston this week. Even if the Jets fall to 3-2 and the Steelers win, New York will still be ahead of the Steelers in the standings because of conference record. This is a theme you’ll be hearing throughout the season. 8-8 or 9-7 won’t cut it for the Steelers if their division and conference records are bad and they have the same record as another team.
The Jets are surviving despite injuries, suspensions and being the Jets. The Jets defense has been pretty good for the most part and their offense is good enough to help them win games. There won’t be any head to head opportunities for the Steelers and Jets so it’s important for Pitt to finish ahead of the Jets. The AFC East is matched up against the AFC South this year so they have a clear advantage. Keeping pace with the AFC East teams will be huge for the Steelers.
