Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers
After missing the first four games of the season, Gates came out on fire in his first game back. He hooked up with Philip Rivers nine times for 92 yards and two touchdowns against the Pittsburgh Steelers, good for 30.2 fantasy points in my PPR league. It is important to note he had 11 targets on the day as well.
The Chargers have a Sunday afternoon trip to take on the Green Bay Packers on the horizon, and while that may not be great from a football standpoint—it is fantastic from a fantasy standpoint. With the high-octane offense of the Packers likely jumping out to an early lead, the Chargers will likely be in “play from behind mode,” which means a ton of passing.
On DraftKings, Gates is currently $4,600—which means you would get him for a $200 discount and not have to move any money around. The only warning for those choosing Gates is this, the Packers are currently No. 15 in the league in points given up to tight ends—giving up just one touchdown on the season, and that came in their first game against Chicago. Oh, and they have played the likes of Graham and Kelce—two of the better players at the position.
