Nick Mangold vs. Terrance Knighton

Despite the improved weapons on the outside, specifically Brandon Marshall, the Jets still are a football team that needs to run the ball. As shown in the Eagles game, when the Jets can’t run the football, they aren’t very effective. The quarterback isn’t good enough to take the team on his back. So it’s no surprise that the Jets have posted a 3-1 record, and have rushed for 127.3 yards per game.

The Redskins, however, have been no slouch against the run on defense, ranking 12th in the league, giving up only 97 yards per game. A big reason is Terrance Knighton. This 6’2″, 295 pound nose tackle is in his first year with the Redskins, and proving to be a tough man to block, with 11 tackles so far, six of them solo. The Jets, according to Football Outsiders, have directed 58 percent of their run plays over the center/guard, bringing this match-up into full focus.

Watch this matchup in the trenches, it will be a huge key.
