Wait is this the worst position on the Eagles defense or the five Eagles who have made this defense special? A safety is someone who is helping the Eagles defense shine when Brain Dawkins is retired?
Yes.
In what might have been the best, and luckiest, free agent signing of the Eagles offseason; Walter Thurmond has become a star in Philadelphia, but at the safety position.
Thurmond was a lucky signing because the Eagles signed him with the intentions of playing him at cornerback, but when they realized, after we had all be screaming about it in out sleep, that the Eagles needed someone to play the other safety position; Thurmond embraced the role and took it on as his new challenge.
It has been sweet to watch Thurmond play safety for the Eagles. Yeah he has an occasional mistake, but as long as you don’t spend the day screaming at Nate Allen or Patrick Chung through your TV screen as they get burnt for another touchdown, you should take it.
Thurmond has actually found himself as the fifth-ranked safety on Pro Football Focus.
That is just an amazing statistic to look at as this position looked to be the weakest for the Eagles heading into the season.
Kudos to Walter Thurmond for helping this Eagles defense become special and becoming an impact player for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Season stats: 29 total tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 4 pass deflections, and 3 interceptions.
