Oakland May Lose the Raiders
It was just announced today that the NFL and Anheuser-Busch just extended their sponsorship deal for six years and it’s worth more than $1.4 billion. That’s only one sponsor for one of the NFL’s five top revenue sources. That doesn’t count other advertisers, ticket sales, licensing, merchandise and using their venues for other things or what they have been charging military branches for their “Support the Troops” ceremonies.
Over the last 10 years while the country has been in one of the toughest economic times in US History the NFL is thriving. States and cities have not yet recovered from our generations “Great Depression.”
That’s why it’s such an atrocity that the NFL wants local cities to pay for new stadiums when they know it’s not feasible right now. Instead they are threatening to move the teams and take them away from cities like Oakland, San Diego and St. Louis. Make no mistake about it, if the NFL wanted to keep the teams in their current locations they have the money to do it. They just don’t want to and instead they talk about one day having an NFL franchise in London.

Bay Area’s News Group Marcus Thompson II nailed it when he said the NFL doesn’t want to be in Oakland. Everything the NFL does is about the money which is fine because it’s a business, but don’t lie to the people who are a big reason the NFL is a billion dollar industry. Player safety, fan satisfaction and game quality will always be secondary to profits and that will be Goodell’s legacy.
