Defensive Backs: B+

Statistical Leaders: Marcus Gilchrist, 38 tackles (29 solo), 2 interceptions; Marcus Williams, 4 interceptions

Now here is the group that came into 2015 generating the most excitement around the New York Jets. Mike Maccagnan rebuilt this group, adding Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie, and Marcus Gilchrist. Darrelle Revis has been almost as good as we remember, with NFL quarterbacks throwing for a passer rating of 44.0 when testing out “Revis Island”. Marcus Gilchrist has played well, and has given Calvin Pryor the freedom to play in the box, and post 36 tackles to go along with an interception as a result. Marcus Williams has come into his own, leading the team with four interceptions.

On the other hand, Antonio Cromartie has played like a man on the downside of his career. He gets beaten badly in coverage, and no longer is able to make up for it with great athleticism. In 2015, he has had QB’s complete over 57% of the targets his way, and throw for a passer rating of 135.3.

The New York Jets are only 15th in the league in pass defense. This secondary has gotten the ball for their offense, but overall, they have underperformed.
