On Monday night, the Chicago Bears were the underdog coming into Qualcomm Stadium against the San Diego Chargers. It would have been hard to believe with the thousands of Bears fans that attended the game. Half the stadium was filled with navy blue and orange and were not afraid to boo the home team. The first Bears first drive was clean and looked great until they were stalled in the red zone. A routine kick from Robbie Gould would have had the Bears on the board first, but Gould missed the kick. It was unlike Gould as he did it again in the second quarter.
As the Bears defense kept blitzing all night, to no avail and after racking up 107 yards on two possession, a pile of mistakes that included a fumble and an interception, the Bears ended scoreless and the Chargers led by 13 in the first half.

But something clicked, like gears that were slightly off track. Bears quarterback Jay Cutler finds receiver Alshon Jeffery for 47 yards and Jeffrey reacts with extreme emotion. Again Cutler finds a fired up Jeffrey who dives for a catch at the 1-yard line. With a fake handoff and a roll to the right, Cutler finds a wide open Martellus Bennett for the Bears first score on the board, 13-7.
"“Let’s finish the game, let’s make the plays, let’s believe in each other”-Alshon Jeffery"
Before the game, Coach John Fox asked Jeffery to address the team about finishing the game with a win, and they did it in epic fashion! Entering the second half the Bears needed to gain control of the momentum and the clock. Rookie running back Jeremy Langford made a case for himself by rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown. He is not the all-around back that Matt Forte is, but he can be an asset for the future.
The redemption story continued with the play of the week, a one-handed catch from tight end Zach Miller, who for several years had been riddled with injuries. His catch electrified the entire team, including the showing of immense emotion from Cutler. The Bears decided to show more guts by going for the 2-point conversion with success. This trickled on to the defense that had to hold back the Chargers who still had 3 minutes left on the clock to do damage.

But it was the Bears who would do the damage as linebacker Lamaar Houston sacked Rivers twice and caused Rivers to make a desperate attempt down field to a group of Bears players. Game over. Bears win 22-19.
The Bears finally finish a game, even if it was against a failing team. But sometimes teams have to start small until they are ready for the big boys. As the Bears continue to grow, one thing is for sure, the once Monsters of the Midway are slowing regaining their identity and becoming a united front once again.
