Strength of Schedule
When a team finishes 4-12 like the Jets did, a lot of changes occur. They changed the administration of the team, as Rex Ryan and John Idzik were fired in favor of Todd Bowles and Mike Maccagnan. There are many roster changes, as the Jets spent a great deal of money to get better. It means a high draft pick, which became defensive lineman Leonard Williams.
The other “benefit” of a 4-12 year is the chance to play a weaker schedule. Take a look at the New York Jets’ opponents over the final seven games:
- Houston Texans
- Miami Dolphins
- New York Giants
- Tennessee Titans
- Dallas Cowboys
- New England Patriots
- Buffalo Bills
As of the publication of this post, only two of these teams (Patriots and Bills) possess a winning record. 31-33 is the current overall record of the Jets’ remaining opponents.
This team will stay in the race, simply because they have a pretty weak schedule the rest of the way.
