Cleveland Browns: Johnny Manziel drops golden MNF opportunity

Cleveland Browns’ quarterback Johnny Manziel dropped a golden opportunity to bring some light to his NFL career but dropped the ball big time.

When it comes to tonight’s Monday Night Football game between the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns, it’s safe to say that it’s more than likely going to be a boring and low-scoring affair. The Ravens have had a plethora of injuries this season and will have Jimmy Clausen under center due to Joe Flacco‘s season-ending torn ACL-MCL injury. Needless to say, there won’t be much to keep die-hard football fans entertained for the entire game.

The Browns have also been a complete mess as they have one of the worst records in the entire NFL at 2-8. Before the Browns bye week last week, the organization felt it was time to unleash Manziel for the rest of the season as their starting quarterback. Since there is no hope for the team to make the NFL Playoffs, it’s actually a great time to finally see what he can do with a full slate of games to hone his craft for the rest of the season.

More from Cleveland Browns

During the off-season, Manziel decided to do what was best for himself and his NFL career by checking into a rehab facility to help control his demons. While I applaud him for doing that since he was doing way too much partying, drinking and everything in between, it at least at the time proved he was serious about getting better and putting his career back in the right direction.

All was well but during the Browns’ bye week and due to his recent promotion to starter, Manziel simply couldn’t stay out of trouble. Not only did he party hard yet again while drinking with friends, reports have surfaced that he also lied to the Browns about when it happened to avoid him facing the consequences of his dumb actions.

Manziel has now officially blown a golden opportunity to not only prove his critics wrong but show that he can indeed be a viable starting option for the Browns as their franchise quarterback. This recent distraction only solidifies the fact that he’s simply not ready to be successful in the NFL.

If he was able to start as intended tonight, it would have been great to see what he could do in front of a prime time audience fully knowing that this is his team to bring some kind of light to. Instead, he has embarrassed the organization and himself to the point that he’s been demoted to third string and might not even be active tonight.

This latest debacle could have sealed his fate with the Browns who will no doubt want to truly consider what to do with him this upcoming off-season after yet another losing season. Tonight’s match-up would have been much more entertaining thanks to the “Johnny Football” factor he brings to the table but truth of the matter is, this is a game that will probably be a sloppy disaster for both teams trying to somehow and someway leave this game victorious.

Overall, Manziel probably won’t realize how big of a mistake it was for him to do what he did just a week before being able to show a national audience why he was considered by many to be an x-factor once he transitioned into the NFL on Monday Night Football. Now? He might as well stick to remembering his golden days from Texans A&M as his NFL career has so far been something worth forgetting about.
