Jacksonville Jaguars: Allen Robinson should be in Pro Bowl

Jacksonville Jaguars star wide receiver Allen Robinson is having a stellar second-year season, and here’s why you should vote him to the Pro Bowl.

Who leads all receivers in touchdown catches this season? No, it is not Odell Beckham, DeAndre Hopkins, Antonio Brown, or Julio Jones. Instead, it’s Allen Robinson, the Jacksonville Jaguars star and second year receiver out of Penn. State.

On Sunday against the Titans, Robinson caught 10 balls for 153 yards and three touchdowns. It should have been four, had Robinson not tripped up on the one yard line in the first half.

Here are a few of his grabs

Those numbers add to what is already a pro bowl caliber season for Robinson. He now has 65 catches for 1,080 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those 1,080 yards rank fifth in the NFL. Not only does Robinson lead the league in touchdowns, but he’s also the league leader in yards per grab for those with a minimum of 35 catches.

According to Mike DiRocco of ESPN.com , “Robinson is on pace to catch 87 passes for 1,440 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. That would be one of the best seasons in team history, with the sixth-most catches and the second-most yards — and he already owns the record for most receiving touchdowns (11). He is already 14th in receiving yards (1,628) and 15th in receptions (113) in team history after just 22 games.”

More from Jacksonville Jaguars

Robinson eclipsed 1,000 yards on Sunday, which is the first time a Jaguars receiver has passed that mark since Jimmy Smith did back in 2005.

What’s scary is that Robinson is only 22 years old. Almost a full year younger than his fellow 2014 draft counterpart Odell Beckham.

Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans, Odell Beckham, Brandin Cooks, Kelvin Benjamin, Marqise Lee, Jordan Matthews, Paul Richardson, Davante Adams, and Cody Latimer were all drafted ahead of the former Penn. State product. All of those teams, but the G-Men, would take A-Rob now.

What makes Robinson so good is his 6’3, 215 pound frame. Robinson thrives on 50-50 balls. In fact, he’s so good at bringing them down that his teammates call him 75-25. In other words, they believe he has a 75 percent chance of catching those throws (via DiRocco).

His quarterback, Blake Bortles says (via DiRocco), “He’s unbelievable,”. “He’s superintelligent, and he’s an unbelievable teammate. He’s going to accomplish, I think, a ton of things in his career, and he’ll be the most humble guy doing it the whole time.”

Robinson numbers certainly warrant a trip to the Pro Bowl. Playing in a small market such as Jax hurts Robinson’s chances however. In their 21 year existence, only 21 players have made the Pro Bowl, with the last one being Paul Posluszny in 2013.

Robinson was predicted by many to be a breakout candidate in 2015. He certainly has exceeded expectations. A few weeks ago I wrote an article about Allen Robinson being a top 10 wide receiver.
