When it was announced the Eagles would be getting Alonso for McCoy, it made the trade harder to understand.
The Eagles had a decent core at middle linebacker, with former second round pick Mychal Kendricks, and at the time, the leader of their defense in DeMeco Ryans. Adding Alonso made the position crowded. Add in that Alonso was coming off of a torn ACL and the city of Philadelphia was on the verge or rioting.
The city may have been on the verge or rioting when the trade happened, but after watching Alonso play this season; Philly fans are on the streets screaming about the horrible trade.
If the season would end today, McCoy would have zero tackles, which would only be 25 less than the middle linebacker the Eagles traded for.
Alonso has been horrible this season as 25 tackles, for a guy who once had 22 tackles in one game his rookie season, is just downright embarrassing at this point.
Other than Alonso’s ridiculous one-handed interception in week one, it has seemed like he is not even on the team.
He has only played in eight games this season because he re-injured his knee that kept him out of the whole entire 2014 season.
The Eagles certainly did not get the return they were looking for when they traded McCoy and the trade itself has been reminiscent of a train wreck.
To make matters worse, the Eagles did not even need Alonso…
