If Alonso’s poor play wasn’t enough to show you how bad the trade was then this will certainly seal the deal.
The Eagles used a third round pick on the rookie middle linebacker out of the University of Texas, Jordan Hicks. It added yet another body at the middle linebacker position for the Eagles, but many believed that Hicks was going to be groomed until Ryans left the Eagles. Obviously, with rookies, you never truly know what to expect, but Hicks began to flash early in the year.
Not only did he flash, he began to make plays and become the leader of the defense.
Hicks showed that he may have been the best linebacker on the Eagles. However, Hicks season was cut short when Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reported that Hicks would be out for the season with a torn pectoral.
In eight games, Hicks had complied 50 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and one touchdown.
Here is an easier comparison of Alonso and Hicks’ stats in eight games this season:
"Hicks: 50 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions, one touchdown. Alonso: 25 tackles, one interception."
Yikes. Hicks was clearly better than Alonso this season and it wasn’t even close.
Could the trade get any worse? Yes.
