Jacksonville Jaguars are wise to bring back Gus Bradley
By Nick Ziegler
The Jacksonville Jaguars have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch this season with their high-scoring offense, but there is still room for improvement in Jacksonville.
In 2015, the Jaguars have a 5-10 record with one game left to play in Week 17, and there has been a lot of speculation about whether or not their head coach Gus Bradley would be back as their head coach next season.

Bradley signed a four-year contract in January of 2013 to become the Jaguars’ head coach, and as expected his record thus far hasn’t been great with the rebuilding Jaguars. In three seasons, Bradley has a 12-35 record as a head coach, which wouldn’t raise any eyebrows if he was to be fired.

Jaguars’ owner Shad Kahn recently addressed Bradley’s status for the 2016 season in a statement to the media.
“I spoke to Gus Bradley [Tuesday] to confirm to him that he will continue as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016. It’s evident to see how far we’ve come in many aspects of our game, and Gus deserves a lot of credit for that progress. It’s also evident the considerable work that remains to be done to be where we expect to be at this time next season, which is well above where we stand today. And Gus understands that.
“Dave Caldwell and I also spoke today and we are both confident that Gus will make 2016 the best year of his career. In the meantime, I expect his coaching staff and team to respond favorably to this news in preparation for Houston on Sunday and then begin thinking about what more they can provide next season. We have high ambitions.”
The 5-10 record may not show it, but the Jaguars are certainly an improving team under Bradley. On the offensive side of the ball, the future is very bright in Jacksonville, as Blake Bortles is developing into one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. This season, Bortles has totaled 4,189 passing yards, 35 passing touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. The statistical jump for Bortles in his second season is a massive one, as a lot of the credit has to go to the coaching staff.
Bortles also has some very talented weapons around him, as his young wide receiver duo of Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns is one of the best in football.

While the offense has been great for the Jaguars, the defense is now the area that clearly needs to improve in 2016 if the Jaguars are to become a playoff team. The injury to their 2015 first round pick Dante Fowler Jr. certainly did not help a defensive unit that could use some more talent, but his return in 2016 should be a huge boost to the defense.
Bradley was brought in as a defensive-minded coach when he was hired, but so far the Jaguars haven’t had a quality defense with him as the head coach. The great improvement on the offensive side of the ball has bought Bradley at least one more season in Jacksonville, but if they don’t make the playoffs next season, the Jaguars may be looking for a new head coach.
