Florida. Vernon Hargreaves. 1.05. player. 52. Led by the emergence of Blake Bortles and Allen Robinson, the Jacksonville Jaguars have an exciting offensive unit in the makings. However, despite head coach Gus Bradley being a defensive-minded leader, the Jaguars’ defense continues to struggle, especially against opposing passing attacks.

Allowing 268.2 yards per game through the air, the Jaguars had the 29th ranked pass defense in the NFL in 2015. The return of last year’s first overall pick Dante Fowler Jr. from injury will undoubtedly improve the pass rush, but the Jaguars need to focus attention in the secondary. Davon House is a talented corner with some real upside, but there is little else in the secondary worth mentioning.

Selecting Vernon Hargreaves III with the fifth overall pick would give the Jaguars an immediate much-needed boost of talent in the secondary.

Hargreaves is a strong press man-to-man defender who has legitimate shut-down corner upside in the NFL. His incredible athleticism and speed is obvious at all times, but Hargreaves is also a tough and aggressive defender who always seems to be in the right position.

At 5-foot-11, 199 pounds, he is a bit on the small side of what scouts look for in the position now, but Hargreaves plays much bigger than his listed size. His physicality and strength allows him to fight with bigger receivers, while his impressive leaping ability helps keep taller receivers in check. Hargreaves is also a strong run defender who is not afraid to step up and make a play against physical running backs.

A possible home run selection here for the Jaguars, as a clearly talented player meets obvious position of need for the team.
. CB
