player. 59. Despite seeming to have a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball, the Miami Dolphins continue to struggle stopping opposing offenses. Their 376.2 total yards allowed per game ranks 25th in the NFL, and helps show their need for defensive play-makers.

With the eighth overall pick, the Dolphins fall in a nice place where best player available meet a positional need. UCLA linebacker Myles Jack is an incredibly talented player with huge upside at the next level. His inclusion at outside linebacker in the Dolphins’ defense would immediately take their talent to another level.

A former two-way star (RB and LB) for UCLA, Jack decided to focus on his play at linebacker. However, the skills that made him successful at running back are still obvious when watching Jack play defense.

Jack has rare natural athleticism for the position, using his great speed and quickness to make plays all over the field. His coverage skills are elite, making him a legitimate threat to the big and athletic tight ends who have dominated the league in recent years.

Jack’s ability in pass coverage is his most obvious strength, but he has a natural nose for the ball that allows him success against the run as well. He does tend to get washed up on inside runs at times, but Jack is a legitimate sideline-to-sideline linebacker who will make plays all over the field against the run and pass.

While he has not shown many opportunities on the pass rush, Jack has shown a ton of upside as a natural edge rusher. I doubt it is anything that he will do much at the next level, but Jack can use his speed and athleticism to attack the quarterback as well.

A torn ACL that he suffered in September will cause some teams to pause on Jack, but simply taking it easy with him should allow a natural return to the playing field for the start of next season. The way players recover from knee injuries now, I do not think he will see Jack’s game suffer at all.

Sure, the injury brings some risk to the table, but I am betting on the obvious skill-set in Jack’s arsenal. The Dolphins would grab a true impact player at linebacker here.
. LB. UCLA. Myles Jack. 1.08
