Seth Roberts: Success

At the beginning of the season, fans wanted to see more Rod Streater and less Seth Roberts in three-wide receiver sets.

The coaches went with their on-field evaluations instead of the fan favorite and reaped the benefits. Via Pro Football Focus, Roberts ranks in the top 15 in blocking among wideouts, which explains the early success in screen passes to wide receiver Amari Cooper.

He also hauled in touchdown passes in the clutch:

After a few hiccups early in the season, Roberts exhibited unexpected poise in his first season as a starter in Oakland.

For quarterback Derek Carr, he’s a viable option in the end zone (five touchdowns receptions) and a chunk-yardage receiver averaging 15 yards per catch.
