Vikings fail to re-sign Rhett Ellison

People outside of Minnesota don’t know too much about Ellison (unless you’re a USC fan), but he’s been an underrated part of the Vikings offense for the last couple of seasons. Easily their best blocking tight end, he brings a lot of value to the table in terms of opening lanes for Adrian Peterson to run through and providing extra protection for Bridgewater. Those are just some of the reasons why re-signing him will be imperative for the Vikings this offseason.

Unfortunately, it may not happen.

While most casual fans know little about Ellison, it would come as no surprise if several NFL teams knew the value of the backup tight end. He’s a reliable receiver, versatile blocker and quality special teams player. There aren’t too many players in the NFL who offer that much value while only requiring $1-$2 million per year.

Some team is going to be willing to overpay for Ellison, which will take the Vikings out of the running for him once the bidding begins.
