Cornerback: Trumaine Johnson

Without a doubt, the Raiders’ top priority this offseason is making significant upgrades at cornerback. Just about every cornerback that saw snaps in 2015 was a mess, although David Amerson was a breath of fresh air after being signed early in the season. T.J. Carrie suffered a sophomore slump, while the likes of D.J. Hayden, Keith McGill and Neiko Thorpe all struggled to look like NFL-caliber talent.

Free agency will offer the Raiders the best opportunity to make immediate improvements at the position, and Johnson should be one the top targets on their radar. Not a lot of folks are too familiar with Johnson considering how he was rather underrated during his time with the

Los Angeles Rams. However, there’s no denying that he’s more than capable of being a quality starter in the NFL.

Johnson offers impressive size, instincts and technique in coverage, and clearly has a knack for finding the football after racking up seven interceptions and 17 pass defenses in 2015. On top of all of that, he’s more than comfortable with stepping up and getting dirty as a run defender.

He’s everything the Raiders wish they had in a starting cornerback. I have a feeling there may be a bidding war for his talents, but there’s no shortage of available funds in Oakland. Finding a way to get him under contract would be a big win for the Silver and Black defense.
