The Atlanta Falcons parted ways with the veteran wide receiver. We’ll take a look at how Roddy White can potentially be a fit with the Tennessee Titans with former coaches Mike Mularkey and Terry Robiskie running the show. The Titans need as much help as possible to help develop their young franchise quarterback, Marcus Mariota.
Roddy White has officially been released by the Atlanta Falcons. If the 34 year old wide receiver decides to chase money instead of going to a potential Super Bowl contender, the Tennessee Titans could be a great fit. You can connect the obvious dots. His former wide receivers coach Terry Robiskie is the offensive coordinator in Tennessee, while Titans head coach Mike Mularkey had a stint running the offense in Atlanta.
If you want to look deeper into this pairing, White can bring more then average production at these later stages of his career. He brings leadership. Roddy White has had a big a hand as anyone in developing Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Ryan and elite wide receiver Julio Jones. If you look at the Titans current situation, it’s distinctly similar.

The Titans have the young quarterback/wide receiver combination just like the Falcons had a few years back. There’s more to it then just that, though. Marcus Mariota has drawn multiple comparisons Matt Ryan for being deadly accurate, and being similar in stature. Both quarterbacks thrive in similar systems although, Mariota does posses elite athleticism for a passer unlike Ryan.
Roddy can do a lot for helping develop Mariota by his precise route running and timing. Mariota relies on timing just as much as any quarterback in the league, having a receiver where he is suppose to be when he is suppose to be there will only grow the confidence of the former Heisman winner.
Then you go to the wide receiver position. The Tennessee Titans have monumental potential at the position with 2015 second round pick Dorial Green-Beckham. Green-Beckham possess the rare size and speed combinations that have drawn comparisons to Calvin Johnson and Julio Jones.
You see where I’m going with this? Roddy White showed Julio Jones the basics behind being a premier pass catcher. Everything from route running to film study you hear Jones compliment White for the huge impact he has had on his career, multiple times.
Green-Beckham was forced to sit out a year after he transferred from Missouri University. Even after sitting a year out, Dorial Green-Beckham still decided to take his chances to the NFL. In his rookie year you saw flashes of greatness, while also seeing flashes of him being extremely raw.
Green-Beckham failed to run routes consistently and dropped a few easy passes through out the course of the season.
The solution to that? Bring in a veteran who can relate to the player and show him everything he needs to know about being an elite player. Having a teacher as a coach is great, but there is nothing like team mate to team mate bond to really get to someone. White can really help with the progression of Mariota’s huge target.

If the Titans do decide to bring in the veteran wide receiver, White won’t be relied on as much as he was in Atlanta. With Pro Bowl tight end Delanie Walker, Kendall Wright, and Dorial Green-Beckham all running routes, White would maybe be the third or fourth look while Mariota reads the field on passing downs. At this stage of his career, that is something he shouldn’t have a problem with. As long as Roddy White isn’t looking for a Super Bowl in the near future, the Music City would be a great place for White to finish his career.
