The Philadelphia Eagles have remained patient during the NFL free agency period and have simply added important pieces at a reasonable cost. The signing of offensive lineman Brandon Brooks stands out as a fantastic move by the franchise.

Trimming the fat off of their roster with salary cutting trades, the Philadelphia Eagles have been among the most active teams so far this off season. They have not been huge spenders in free agency thus far, but they have sat back and made a few strong moves that will help them rebuild the roster going forward.

The five-year, $40 million contract agreement between the Eagles and offensive guard Brandon Brooks, which was first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, is among my favorite signings of early free agency. Brooks is an elite NFL guard who fills a massive hole in the Eagles’ offensive line, and they were able to get him at a reasonable cost.

While Brooks’ former team, the Houston Texans, were busy adding Brock Osweiler and Lamar Miller to become a trendy sleeper selection next season, the Eagles swooped in and grabbed Brooks on a great deal.

Brooks shows great natural athleticism for an offensive lineman. His ability to move and attack the second level in the run game is nearly unrivaled in the entire league, and he has grown into a great pass protector at the position. Brooks is an incredibly consistent offensive lineman, and the Eagles had such painfully obvious need on the interior of their offensive line.

Being able to bring in arguably the best one on the open market for a reasonable cost is a huge slam dunk for the Eagles. They have done a great job of remaining patient and not joining the overpaying going on in free agency right now. Brooks was an obvious target for the team, and they aggressively pursued that improvement.
